Mykola Tomenko: The Parliament did not support the Government as to the Weakening of the Social Protection
Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement, commenting on the scrutiny of the bill on amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the State Guarantees of the Ukrainian Citizens´ Savings Recovery" (re savings recovery procedure) at the extraordinary session.
The governmental bill was signed by Mykola Azarov, Prime Minister of Ukraine, and recommended for adoption by the Committee on Social Policy and Labour headed by Vasyl Khara, Head of the Trade Union Federation. The Parliament rejected the bill, "as the absolute majority of the deputies and factions believe that neither social standards can be lowered, nor the savings recovery program can be rolled back."
"The coalition returned the bill for further adjustment to the Government, which was an attempt ‘to maintain an appearance´ while objecting to the governmental initiative. Thus, not only the opposition, but also the coalition factions may further reject the bills to lower the social standards," the Deputy Chairman stated.
